You must be curious to know what exactly Err_Empty_Response Error means. It pops up on the screen when we request to access some data from a website. But in response, no data is sent back by the server.

9 Ways to Fix ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE Error on Google Chrome

Instead of the data, this error displays on the screen. A few of the possible reasons because of which this error may arise are:

  • Troublesome temp files,
  • Poor network connection,
  • Too much browser cache,
  • Running programs in the background,
  • Faulty extensions.

Here are a few of the ways to fix the Err_Empty_Response Error:

1. Use Command Prompt:

For troubleshooting the error using the command prompt, follow these steps:

Step 1: For opening the command prompt, one can follow any of these steps:

  1. Type command prompt in search and right-click on the search result.
  2. Or press Windows key + R to open the Run Dialog Box. Type cmd in the Run Dialog Box, and the command prompt will appear on the screen.
  3. Another way of opening the command prompt is by pressing the Windows key, and X. Then select the Command Prompt(Admin)from the Power User Menu. To run it as an administrator, select the option Run as administrator.

Step 2: Secondly, when it opens, execute the following instructions:

ipconfig/release

ipconfig/all

ipconfig/flushdns

ipconfig/renew

netsh int ip set dns

netsh winsock reset

Step 3: Finally, after the successful execution of the following instructions, restart your computer and check if the error persists or not.

2. Try another Browser:

Err_Empty_Response Error is more frequent in the Google Chrome browser. There are a few browsers that are free from this error. Opera is one of those browsers which are not affected by it. If Google Chrome is creating problems, then one can switch to another browser also.

3. Try using the Incognito Mode:

Step 1: Firstly, activate the incognito mode. You can start the incognito mode by clicking the More Options icon represented by the three dots present in the top right corner of the website window.

Step 2: Then, select the New Incognito Window option from the menu.

Note: You can also activate the incognito window by pressing Ctrl + Shift + N.

Step 3: Now, browse the website in incognito mode. Check if this solution works or not. If it works in an incognito window, then the problem was due to some third-party extension.

4. Disable Extensions:

Step 1: Firstly, to view the installed extensions type, “chrome://extensions” in the Chrome address bar.

Step 2: Then, press enter.

Step 3: There, we need to check which extension should be enabled and which should be disabled.

Step 4: Then, restart the chrome and check if the error has gone or not.

Step 5: In case of no error, disable all the extensions. Then, enable all one by one and check which extension was causing the error.

5. Disable VPN:

The VPN helps us to establish a secure connection to another network over the internet. It helps in maintaining privacy, and it protects the data from various threats.

However, sometimes, Err_Empty_Response Error is experienced because of the VPN. So, if VPN is there in your system and you are encountering this error. Then, uninstall the VPN from your system and check if the problem is solved or it persists.

6. Clear browsing data:

Step 1: Firstly, launch Google chrome.

Step 2: Then, go to the More Options icon that is present at the top-right end of the browser window and represented by three vertically-aligned dots.

Step 3: Now, select the History option from the Context menu.

Step 4: After that, go to the left pane menu and click the Clear browsing data button and select all-time as a range.

Step 5: Do not forget to check cookies and other site and plug-in data as well as hosted app data and cached images and files before clicking the clear data option.

Step 6: Now, choose all the options, click on Clear data.

Step 7: Then, after clearing the browser data, restart the chrome and browse the website again, and check for the error.

7. Clean the Temp Folder:

The files stored in the temp folder may also cause Err_Empty_Response Error. Cleaning the temp folder is also one possible solution for fixing this error.

Step 1: To remove these files, right-click on the start menu and choose Run or press the Windows Key  + R.

Step 2: This will open the Run dialog box on the screen. In that Run dialog box type, temp and then press the enter key or click OK.

Step 3: To access the folder, you need to log in to Windows as an administrator.

Step 4: Then, press Ctrl + A to select all the files of the folder.

Step 5: Then, right-click and choose the Delete option from the contextual menu.

 Step 6: Restart the Chrome to check if the Err_Empty_Response Error is still there or not.

8. Clean Google Chrome DNS Cache:

Step 1: For cleaning Google Chrome domain name server cache, open chrome.

Step 2: Now, in the address bar type, chrome://net-internals/#dns.

Step 3: Click the Clear host cache button.

9. Change your DNS:

Step 1: Firstly, press Windows key + X to change the DNS.

Step 2: Then, choose Network Connections.

Step 3: After locating the connection, right-click on it and then select the Properties option.

Step 4: Now, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).

Step 5: Then, click on the Properties button.

Step 6: Now, select the Use the following DNS server address.

Step 7: In the Preferred DNS server, either enter 8.8.8.8 or enter 208.67.222.222, and in the Alternate DNS server, either enter 8.8.4.4 or enter 208.67.220.220.

Step 8: Then, click the OK button to save the necessary changes and check whether the error is gone or not.
